Spring 2010 Lambretta
by admin on March 4, 2010
Well spring does not look in site when you have minus 10 weather and snow and ice everywhere. But, riding season will be upon all of us soon. I have Chris’ Series II in the garage, so I’ll try to clear out space so that we can work in garage when the time comes.

Lambretta parts stored for the winter.

Gotta remember where I left off end of season in term of maint work on my scoot. The Lambretta was running a bit rough near the end, I had to kick it over longer and longer as it got closer to Novemberish. Definetly will have to have a look see in the engine and a bit of scooter tune up. Ugg… timing issues… The garage is a f#@ken mess to boot. Gotta make some room to work around in if I am going to have any chance of working on it before the season starts.

Scooter EGT – Anti sieze device
by admin on September 19, 2009
On the way to the Port Burwell Rally 2009 this year. I had a seize on my Lambretta just 50 km from the site. That really sucked. I knew my bike was running hot, but not that hot. I installed an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) Gauge from an Aircraft parts supplier in order to avoid a heat seize.
In this setup I mounted the gauge off my headset with a bullet shell mounting kit. The probe wire runs through the horn cast and clamped on to the exhaust. You need to drill a hole in your exhaust. The hole to the left side of the exhaust, so it does not get clipped from underneath while I ride.
This is my anti blow up warning system. This is a popular add on for those who like to ride long and hard. I just like to ride without pushing home, or renting a UHaul truck.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE MORNING! arggg
by dyoshida on September 9, 2009
What a nightmare getting to work today.
Leave home to find the garbage guys took the yard waste. But there was Sticks and leaves pine pines everywhere!! had to clean it up..
Ok lets get to work. Start scooter.. putt putt putt
Drive out to Lawrence and start making the left to get to warden. Crossing 6 lanes. at lane 2 the bike runs out of gas.. Not enough time to switch to reserve before I get squashed.. run it to the center turning lane.
Ok. relax, switch to reserve and go. It revs to 10000000000 billion rpm… Must have missed the gear so I clutch in and find gear. It was in?? I took it out and then shifted back. Hmm weird…
I must be tired. I make a u-turn on warden to get to the local gas station. Make the right heading away from work only to find the gas station there is closed..
Now I’m heading the wrong way and running out of gas.
Find an esso station close to the DVP.
Pump credit doesn’t work have to go in and line up..
Now I’m starting to see red.
Fill up and head on my way…
Relax. Get on the dvp. It moving so slowly in rush hour that It will be a nice cruise to work..
30 kph.. 40 kph.. 30 kph oh hum.. 50kph

Vespa Exhaust Free!
by dyoshida on August 27, 2009
Got a good laugh from this email from Chris so I though I would post it!
From: Chris
To: Dave;Niall
So I’m 3/4 of the way to work this morning and the down pipe on the P2 breaks off!!! I don’t mean comes loose. I mean off…the vacuum cleaner bit is still attached to the bike just no manifold tube whatsoever!!
In between all the down town buildings the reverb from a P2 with no exhaust is totally deafening, I couldn’t stop laughing as I rode the last bit…every pedestrian I passed stopped in their tracks to see what the racket was, some even covered their ears when I was stuck at a light! Some guy was trying to talk on his cell and started yelling at me but I couldn’t hear what he was saying all he got was a big goofy grin as I drove off!
Muuwaaaahaaaaaahaaaaaa!

Scooter Work Bench 2009
by admin on August 23, 2009
For a work bench this year I used a portable folding table. It was 3 x 5 foot, not ideal to work on scooter stuff.
It was deeper than necessary which takes up valuable space in the garage. And lower, so working at the table for a few hours would be tough on the back.
I initially had plans to make a work bench during the summer. I looked on the web for some work bench drawings for some ideas as well. Due to some set backs, I spent most of my available time working on the Lambretta.
Now that my lambretta is road worthy, I decided to get some wood and give it a go.
50 bucks worth of wood, mitre saw, screws and some time, a few hours and I now have a 2 foot by 6 foot work bench. Yeah!
I’ll add some upgrades later, like power bar, back board to hang stuff, etc.

B7ES – Spark Plug for Lambretta
by admin on August 19, 2009
Here is a NGK chart. We basically use B7ES, but I thought this chart was interesting. It shows a break down of their spark plug naming. What B7ES actually means.
