Back from the Dogs Bollocks Scooter Rally – Port Burwell
by admin on July 20, 2009
We got 50 km short of making it to the rally, my Lambretta broke down near Simco just east of Tillsonburg. Experienced a heat sieze on the highway.
We met a couple of scooterist that helped me trailer it back (Thanks Rob/Rachel!). After taking apart the lambretta on the Saturday, we found :
- both piston rings fuzed into the metal (no compression)
- 1 air intake manifold nut missing (running lean)
- 1 exhaust nut missing (nuts)
- 1 flyweel rivit found inside the dust cover that came off somehow (?)
- Chipped stater pick-up, from the dancing rivit (crap)
- missing TS1 kit (just kidding)
In short we spent time trying to get it going, but it would not be safe. So believe it or not there was a uhaul in Tillsonburg that we were able to bring the scoot back. Regardless… had a great time at the rally… I’ll post some more pics/videos when I get a chance. Right now we have an engine rebuild to take care of.
Thanks to everyone who helped out in my time of need!
Enjoy the videos.
Cheers,
David.

Making it to the Port Burwell rally?
by dyoshida on June 29, 2009
Date: Jul. 17th-19th,2009
burwell run n race
- burwell, ont
contrary to belief, port burwell is on this year and its still at burwell, we had a bit of a scare dave the campsite owner dissapeared there for a bit and the track was only letting us do 1/8th mile runs instead of 1/4 miles, well now thats all been sorted, daves back and we got the green light for 1/4 miles, mel and i will be at the campsite from the 14th onwards, anyone wishing to come down early n hang out you are more than welcome. the usual stuff will be happening at the weekend- raacing, games, drinkin etc. we are also thinking about havin a mini soccer torny, 5 a side, 5 minutes each way so if you think youve got 4 mates who can kick a ball email me n let me know so i can tell if theres enough interest to put it on. cost for the weekend is $35 includes camping etc, but alas not includeing the track fees, i think thats $20 to race

Carbing – Flat slide 28mm Mikuni
by dyoshida on June 21, 2009
I decided to get a new 28 mikuni flat slide, I gave up on the OKO. The Mikuni was very easy to put on. I down jetted to 160 main from the standard 180, kep the standard pilot jet after testing it out for a bit. I took a notch down on the needle jet to lean out the bottom end.
I’ll save the OKO for another project.
Right now I am looking to get a Mikuni cable choke conversion kit. It will be a pain to keep taking the side panels off every time I have to kick the lambretta over. I’ll ride around the block over the next week to be sure that the carbing is working well.

Round slide v.s. Flat slide
by dyoshida on June 12, 2009
Me here. Hopefully this weekend I’ll have a chance to work on the carbing. I took the scoot out for a putter a week ago. I put on an old Mikuni 28 round slide. Very very smoky when idling. No low end power but after about 30 km, I get a boost. My carbing was always off before so now with the additional porting I’ll get a fresh start at this all. I will part the round slide for now and try out a flat slide carb. There are good resources on the web that I have found that talks about carbing tips, I’ll post which ones that work out.
I have decided to put in a OKO 24 flat slide that I found, we’ll how really easy it is. From what everyone tells me the flat slide carbs are way easier to configure. We’ll see.
BTW – I was able to get into the garage over the past few days and get the headlight wiring to work.

To do list.
by dyoshida on May 28, 2009
I have spent a bit of time post Niagara rally doing some clean up in the garage. The compression issue is now solved in the engine.
The known unknowns at this time to resolve are correcting the carbing and getting the head light running. The 12 volt ignition has been installed and all looks good so far. The bike is able to kick over now, but is spewing a lot of nasty smoke.
The unknown unknowns I am sure are just lurking around the corner.
