Close but not yet.

by dyoshida on May 19, 2009

Oh well.  My lambretta did not make it to the Niagra 2009 rally.  We did give it our all.  Right now it is time to keep trouble shooting.  Timing? Carb? not sure where the issue lies just yet.

In the end, one out of 3 project scooters made it down.  I took some photos while we were there.  I’ll post those shortly.

Making it to the Niagara Rally?

by dyoshida on May 15, 2009

Still working on the lambrettas, we left them about 3:00 a.m. last night. 1 kicks over (yeah!), 1 has a replaced crank and putting back the wiring,  1 has yet to be tested (mine) .  So much for spending the last week polishing the bikes up.  This will be the last post of today.

See you if we see you.

Started working on the bikes at 10 am.

Kept working on the 2 bikes and chris’ engine (ouch!)

The bikes are getting very close another 12 hr shift and they should be ready to.

Left dave and chris at the workshop to put chris’ engine back together.  He found the parts to fix it!

Where does someone find a GP crank in one day?!?!  WOw.

Niagara ..Here we come…

Yawn,… ZZZzzz…

….$^%$*%!!!!!!

Wouldn’t you know it…

So we put building my Series 3 off of this project as trying to get all 3 bikes bikes done for Niagara was threatening to derail getting any bikes done for Niagara so I pulled mine, leaving Dave and Nialls bike. Much more ‘do-able’.

So I spent Sunday in my own shed with my contingency plan…my much loved Series 2.

I cleaned the piston up, replaced the barrel and head, cleaned the carb, new plug etc. Wiped the bike down and retired for the first fairly early night in weeks.

Monday after work I decided a good test would be to ride up to Dave’s and help out some more.

The bike ran fine (a bit boggy but I could adjust that when I got to Dave’s)…turns out that ‘bit boggy feeling was actually my big end bearing attempting to escape my engine via the exaust port! The bike locked solid about 50 meters from Dave’s house,  Nice.

So here we are 3 days from the rally and me with a completely screwed Gp crank. Lets see how this turns out shall we…

More later.

Rebuild 2009 – 4 days to Niagara

by dyoshida on May 11, 2009

We are full tilt on the assembly phase of my lambretta.   Niall has put in tons of overtime to start the assembly of my scoot.  The best thing I can do right now is to keep the painted parts and beer flowing.  Check out he pictures of the progress.  Forks have been assembled, engine mounted, rear hub,  kick stand, wiring loom, head set lower.  Just a few parts left to paint so I’ll be in the painting booth.  My buddy Hon also picked up my ignition from Stony at Oddball Kustoms on the weekend, wow that saves me some time. I’ll get that part today.  Thanks Stony for getting me a 12 volt ignition!

We are on our 2nd pair of paper suit already.  The plastic zippers keep breaking on those things so paint just keeps getting stuck to our skin.  $8 paper suit , you get pay for I guess.  We found a work around solution to stay in budget.  It’s called a garbage bag.  Who took this photo anyways.  Chris is on his way here after getting his Series II on the road today, he sacraficed his new build so that at least 2 rebuilt scooters would make it to Niagara Rally 2009.

Last Weekend done.

by dyoshida on May 11, 2009

2 scoots are going to be completed before this weekend.

We tried for 3 but its just too much to do with the limited time we have available. I have this week off so I will be putting in as much time during the day and hopefully the guys can keep working each evening getting parts ready for me to assemble.

Here are some pics of the bikes and how much is done

Last weekend before Niagara Rally

by dyoshida on May 9, 2009

This is a quick update.  We are on the last weekend before the Niagara rally.  Friday night we put in a few hours and called it an early night so we could start early today.  This morning turned out to be another challenging build day.  I got up at 7:30 a.m., went to the garage to unload the parts to work on before the guys got here.  The forecast called for rain in the afternoon, so we tried to get in a full morning of work.  Yeah right.

9:00 a.m. rain..rain..then hail.  All the parts were soaked, so I spent the next couple of hours trying to dry them.  One think I managed to get done in the a.m. was to renew my sticker an update my ownership.

By the time the crew got here is was just a comedy of errors.  The forecast was all over the place and we got the short end of the stick.  Rain part in, no rain parts out, back and forth a few times.  We were about to call the whole day a write off until after the last downpour the sun came out.  Up till then spirits were really low.  Now we have a burst of renewed energy.  I popped in now just for an update.

by dyoshida on May 4, 2009

Chris and I prepared an order for the stuff we know is missing.  I did the best I could to include the stuff I know that is missing.  We are going fedex as time is short.  If I miss anything i’ll be stuck fabricating something out of elastic bands, duct tape and zip ties (again).

The order was sent out one hour ago.

Crunch weekend – May 2nd and 3rd

by dyoshida on May 4, 2009

What a weekend. We are down to crunch time. Spent an unexpected two days grinding it out. The back yard looked like it had rained lambretta parts.
Hon came by to pitch in on Saturday. What a work horse! Paint stripped parts and took pics as well to help out.
We were still sanding parts, but were able to get some colour on my bike by the end of the weekend. The guys convined me that brown was better than black. Once the paint went on I had to agree. Niall’s parts are almost all painted, so he started on the assembly of his scooter. I have most of my stuff queued up for the spray room. Chris has 50% of his parts primed.

Check out these photos Hon took during the weekend!

I think we are still on plan A, but time is running out very fast!  Perhaps we should stop drinking while working… nah… that’s still part of plan A, B, and C!
